Napoleon Stone-aparte by ATLbladerunner Napoleon Stone-aparte by ATLbladerunner
Howdy folks! This here is my big piece for the show this month at the Alcove gallery in Atlanta. It comes in at a whopping 36 x 40 inches!

This is, of course, based on the famous painting of Napoleon crossing the Alps and you can see the original here - [link]

The background on this one gave me fits and all the repainting on it probably added about 12 hours of extra work on this one for me. I originally had the background cliffs in browns like the foreground, but they blended in too much with the ones in the front so I decided to change the color. It still took two tries to get the color like I wanted it, and then the dinosaur kinda sunk back into the background too much and I had to punch him up as well. I'm still not totally happy with it, but I had to just call it finished and move on.

In case you're wondering, FF + WS is Fred Flintstone (duh) and Wilma Slaghoople. Wilma's maiden name was referred to a few times during the run of the series but it was always different. I liked the ring of Slaghoople though. I guess back then they weren't too concerned with continuity like folks who do tv shows and comics and stuff nowadays. As a matter of fact, Fred's boss Mr. Slate had like 5 or 6 different first names throughout the run of the show!

Hope you guys like it!

No doubt about it; this is the cleverest, most artistic Flintstones piece I've seen to date - from every scale and pebble to the name itself :D

This is awesome Ben! It'd be great to see it in person. You need to take photos at your exhibition.

Funny you should mention that. My Mom went down on the afternoon of the opening and took some pics! I'll see if I can get her memory card and get them off there and post them. :)

Everything in this pic seems to have a texture of its own. The raptor's scales remind me of mosaic tiles. Top notch stuff!

Wonderful, I love all the guys working in the background. It makes Fred look more aristocratic, heh heh!

Why isn't Fred riding Dino?

I thought of having Fred astride Dino at first, of course, but since Dino is a "dog" sized dinosaur I thought he'd be too small for Fred. Plus didn't wanna have to mess with his size to make it work. I also liked the idea of Fred on the back of a mean looking T-rex!
