Mellow Mushroom Gatlinburg

Hiya folks! I realized this morning that I never submitted the photos of the murals I did in Gatlinburg, Tennessee this Spring! After panicking for a bit as I searched everywhere on my computer and couldn't find the photos, I remember I had posted them in one of my Facebook photo albums so I just went and downloaded them from there.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Mellow Mushroom, it's a pizza chain that was started in Atlanta, Georgia and after spreading through Georgia for several years, they're now opening restaurants all over the country. The aesthetics of the places are kinda hippie-fied with different themes depending on the location of the store. They put a lot of original installations and original art in every new store, plus they make KICK ASS pizza!

I designed both murals for this Mellow Mushroom restaurant and had the opportunity to actually travel to Gatlinburg (or as some folks call it "Hillbilly Vegas") to help paint them. For my designs I used the Mellow Mushroom's own characters designed by their art director and old pal of mine, Buddy Finethy, and the theme for the restaurant was moonshining!

The mural in the top photos was mainly painted by me with lots and lots of help on the base colors by a couple of other guys on the art installation crew. The other mural (bottom pics)was painted mostly by my friend Nick using spraypaint but I chipped in a little bit with a brush on the last day after I finished the long mural above the kitchen. I worked on a scaffold for four days, which was a new experience, and my shins were beat to hell after climbing up and down about a thousand times, not to mention the aching back, legs, and feet! The gig was working long hours that I'm unaccustomed to but I needed the money and I really enjoyed working with the younger, in better shape guys on the installation crew. Hope you guys like it!
